Another way AI is being utilize is as surveillance for the government. The leading country in using AI technology this way is of course China. China invested a large amount of money into small AI companies start-up in their country, then when these companies began having any break through technologies, they with be re-implemented back into the backbone of the country as a way to quickly bring China future into the digital age. For quite a while now, China has been utilizing AI facial recognition technology as part of their national security. Companies like SenseTime now with the government utilizing their advance facial recognition AI and the government's social credit score system as a surveillance system to maintain national peace. Everyone in China is given a  social credit score; but if they break any laws or causes public disturbance, and surveillance cameras that are put at stop lights or any crowded public areas caught them, the AI facial recognition will easily identify the person and lower their score. This will causes some aspect in their life to be harder like having lower score means harder to get a loans from the bank, deelers refusing to sell you a car if your score is  too low, etc..

But a harm these kind of AI surveillance from the government is oppressing minorities. Using advance AI facial recognition technology and high density surveillance in an area of the country allow the government to quickly identify any people of that minority group, making a list of them and separate them out from the larger population to control and suppress any minority group in that area whether that group is actually causing harm or not. An example of this is with China and the suppression Uighurs and other predominantly Muslim ethnic minorities in its northwestern region of Xinjiang. The Chinese Government used there advance surveillance system mentioned above to identify, threaten, and suppress any people within these minority whether these people are dangerous or not. many of these people were put into re-education camp as a way of in the government's mind, help maintaining national peace.
